5 DAYS 'ALL ABOUT THE WRITINGS'

PROGRAM DATE: FEB 20 - 24 MON-FRI

CREATIVE WRITING: GRADE 2-3

Every day different creative writing: [roll-a-story, finish the story, vocabulary story exercise, begin the story, emoji story]

Will submit one writing piece to PBS Kids Writers Contest 

–Learn basic structure/organization of a story

–Understand the foundation of descriptive writing (sensory and figurative language)

–Improve grammar and vocabulary skills

5 TYPES OF WRITING: GRADE 4-5

Types of writing: narrative, creative, expository, persuasive, and literary analysis

 

–Learn to create a story, utilizing proper structure/organization and descriptive language

–Understand the parts of an essay and learn sentence frameworks to build a cohesive/proper paper

–Improve grammar and vocabulary skills

5 TYPES OF WRITING: GRADE 7-8

Types of writing: narrative, creative, expository, persuasive, and literary analysis

 

–Learn to create a story, utilizing proper structure/organization and descriptive language

–Understand the parts of an essay and learn sentence frameworks to build a cohesive/proper paper

–Improve grammar and vocabulary skills

–Build organization skills to create a cohesive and thoughtfully constructed composition

–Improve syntax, vocabulary, and grammar skills

–Develop revision techniques 

CREATIVE & CRITICAL: WRITING COMPETITION SENIOR

NYT Student Editorial Contest (4/12)

Poetry Competition: National High School Poetry competition (3/31)

 

-Learn the basics of argumentative writing and the key elements to successfully structure and argue one’s opinion with solid reasoning and evidence

-Intensive research based class for the editorial contest; students will learn the basics of research to support arguments, find credible sources and complete accurate citations

- Learn poetic devices and figurative language techniques to devise complex poems with personal messages

ACADEMIC LITERATURE 9-10: WRITING COMPLEX ESSAYS

-Upper level literature class where students will read 2 AP/IB level novels

-Deeper level analysis on content, language devices, themes, and characterization

-Transfer understanding to writing; student will learn essay organization and practice writing complex essays - compare/contrast, thematic literary analysis, characterization systems
