Fundamental Course for 10 session during spring session

Course Description: This 10-session course is designed to help students develop the essential skills needed for the SSAT, focusing on vocabulary building, reading comprehension strategies, and introductory essay writing.
Objective: Students will master 400-500 high-frequency SSAT vocabulary words, practice solving 10 key types of analogy relationships, and develop core reading comprehension strategies. By the end of the course, students will have built a solid foundation in these essential areas, preparing them to tackle basic SSAT questions with confidence.

Vocabulary | - High-frequency SSAT words: Learn and practice commonly tested words for the SSAT - Synonyms and Antonyms: Practice recognizing relationships between words through synonym and antonym exercises |
Analogies | - Introduce and practice solving analogies using various types of relationships. (e.g., part/whole, cause/effect, function, degree) - Identifying word relationships and bridges that connect them (e.g., dog : puppy) |
Reading Comprehension | - Introduce different types of reading passages (prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction) - Focused Reading Strategy Practice: Each class will focus on a specific reading skill: (e.g., main idea, inference, summarizing, tone, purpose) Application of strategies to SSAT-style passages |

Sessions 1-5: Focus on mastering 150 high-frequency vocabulary words. Begin practicing reading comprehension strategies and analogy bridges Session 6: Cumulative review Sessions 7-9: Review and expansion. Focus on mastering 500 high-frequency vocabulary words. Review all reading strategies in passage specific readings. Review all analogies in SSAT format. Session 10: Final Review results and provide targeted feedback for continued improvement. each session will also include writing brainstorming, outlining, and developing |
