Grades 2–5
BBB 2 focuses primarily on chapter books, building strong foundations in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and discussion before students transition into the broader interdisciplinary BBB curriculum in Grade 3.
BRIX Beyond Books (BBB) is the newly redesigned evolution of our traditional Book Club program. Building on a strong foundation in literature, BBB expands beyond novels to include engaging nonfiction across history, social studies, science, and current events, helping students build the background knowledge and critical thinking skills needed for increasingly advanced academic reading.
Students grow as confident readers, independent thinkers, and articulate writers across four core pillars: Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, and Grammar. Each grade level pairs powerful literature with real-world nonfiction topics that spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and connect reading to the wider world.
Students explore beloved and award-winning novels alongside high-interest nonfiction from trusted sources such as National Geographic Kids, NASA, HISTORY, CommonLit, Time for Kids, and The New York Times.

Literature, Language, and Writing (LLW) is a rigorous English enrichment course that guides middle schoolers through three interconnected units: short stories, literature, and persuasive writing, building the analytical reading and argumentative writing skills essential for academic success. Each unit is paired with a corresponding writing focus. Students move beyond surface-level reading to engage critically with texts, form well-supported opinions, and communicate them with clarity and conviction.
Short Story Unit + Narrative Writing
Students sharpen close-reading and analytical skills through a curated selection of short fiction, learning to identify theme, structure, and authorial craft. Then, they apply those insights by crafting their own narrative writing.
Literature Unit
Students complete an in-depth novel study, examining character development, theme, and historical/social context, then practice literary analysis writing to articulate and support their interpretations in essay form.
Persuasive Unit
Students learn to build and defend an argument using credible sources, drawing on real-world journalism from The New York Times, Forbes, National Geographic, and HISTORY, as well as independent research using .gov, .org, and .edu sources.

The ERW class is a rigorous high school English course that guides ninth graders through two interconnected units (literary analysis and nonfiction/argumentative writing) building the depth of textual analysis, structured essay writing, and grammar precision essential for high school and standardized testing success.
Each unit corresponds with a writing focus essential for academic rigor. Students move beyond foundational reading into sustained literary and rhetorical analysis, learning to construct formal, evidence-based essays with clarity and precision.
Literary novel & poetry unit:
Students complete in-depth studies of two core novels, each paired with a set of thematically linked poems, examining character development, theme, symbolism, and historical/social context. Students learn to write TEA (Topic/Transition, Evidence, Analysis)-structured essays, placing each novel in conversation with its poetry pairing to build sophisticated comparative analysis skills.
Nonfiction & Argumentative unit:
Students learn to form research questions, evaluate credible sources, and build evidence-based arguments using CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning)-structured writing, drawing on professional journalism and archival primary sources, including:

Weekly grammar:
Students build the specific grammar and language conventions tested on the PSAT/SAT, such as sentence structure, punctuation, agreement, transitions, and concision, through intensive weekly practice aligned to College Board's Standard English Conventions and Expression of Ideas domains.

BRIX AP courses are year-long, small-group classes designed to support both strong academic performance in school and comprehensive AP exam preparation.
Classes meet once a week throughout the academic year, allowing students to build a strong foundation, stay on track with their school coursework, and prepare consistently for the AP exam rather than relying on short-term test preparation.

This year-long, small-group course helps students keep on track throughout the academic year, building historical knowledge in chronological order while consistently incorporating AP-style practice and exam preparation.
